Working for the Wichita Tribune is the best thing that’s ever happened to Rebekah Shayne, until she takes an assignment aimed to take down a prestigious matchmaking firm. She’s determined to ferret out the falsities, schemes, and swindling companies manipulating lonely souls.
Ashton Foster doesn’t believe in on line dating. When his mother takes charge of his personal life, he knows it’s useless to fight her and would rather go through a few dates with strangers than let her push the unending stream of locals down his throat vying for his pocketbook. In this he finds the perfect opportunity to downplay who he is and become a regular type of guy.
San Juan’s reputation for beauty was accurate. From the moment they touched ground and she’d gotten her first good look, she’d been mesmerized. Tucked away from the stifling heat in a posh limousine, she appreciated the little luxuries, such as air conditioning. When she heard of the opportunity offered by Madame Evangeline from a close friend, ambition drove her to say yes. So many dotcoms deluded people into thinking they could find a life-mate with their help. As she sat in the plush interior of the car, she sipped a flute of champagne to take the edge off and center herself.
Newsflash: The concept of finding a “happy forever” with one person went out the window decades ago. Those who believed in love at first sight were simply confused by a hefty dose of lust. She should know. No bam moment had ever made her breathless. No first touch had her made her scream, Hallelujah! He’s the one! In any event, Rebekah finally had the chance to do an exposé that would land her a syndicated column—if she could get the goods.
Madame Evangeline –of the 1 Night Stand online agency—is branching out. She still proposes to find the perfect match for one evening –for a fee, of course. However, these “dates” are no longer restricted to Las Vegas. This time…two jaded people who don’t believe in love are sent to San Juan, Cuba for a weekend of ‘fun in the sun.’
Burn Me If You Can is good, as to be expected from the 1 Night Stand series. I liked the twist that Rebekah isn’t actually looking for a ‘date’ but has an alternative motive for being there (on the date). Of course, Ashton soon changes her mind and persuades her to his way of thinking. Not that much thinking is involved in his weekend plans, or bedroom activities. Yes, that man is hawt! But if you’re going to be Burned, might as well make sure the man knows how to do it right…
4 ½ Fairies
What do you do when it’s supposed to be nothing but a one night stand but you want it to be so much more? For Becka she has never found such a man to change the one night of pleasure into something more, that is until she meets Ashton and her entire world gets turned upside down. After three very beautiful days together can the relationship turn into something more something that will make her burn forever?
This was a cute short story filled with high sensual promise and beautiful beach. I fell in love with Ashton almost immediately and stayed that way till the very end. I know it was very embarrassing but I had to laugh at the ending what a thing to pop up at a moment like that. All and all this was a great quick read and highly recommended.
