Working for the Wichita Tribune is the best thing that’s ever happened to Rebekah Shayne, until she takes an assignment aimed to take down a prestigious matchmaking firm. She’s determined to ferret out the falsities, schemes, and swindling companies manipulating lonely souls.

Ashton Foster doesn’t believe in on line dating. When his mother takes charge of his personal life, he knows it’s useless to fight her and would rather go through a few dates with strangers than let her push the unending stream of locals down his throat vying for his pocketbook. In this he finds the perfect opportunity to downplay who he is and become a regular type of guy.

Excerpt

If she’d thought she suffered from butterflies coming into the establishment, entering the Aqua Lounge was much worse. She cast a surreptitious glance at the bar, her eyes widening at the sublime man chatting easily with the bartender. It was all Bekah could do not to fall over or drool. He presented a side pose, his relaxed shirt fitting the contours of his broad shoulders and back. Land sakes, when he stood up, she got the most delicious view of his ass. And what an ass it was—nice, round, and muscular. He stuck his hand in his pocket and shrugged at something the bartender said. She eyeballed him for all she was worth, getting the ogling out of the way. One glance was all she wrote. She hadn’t expected her date to be ultra hot. If not for her drenched panties, gravity would’ve pulled her cream along the inner seam of her thighs. The décor of the lounge fell away. Honed in on her date, she sashayed her way across the floor, adding a little bounce to her step, her breasts jiggling. The stool next to him remained unoccupied. She smoothed her kimono-style sundress to mid-thigh.

“Ashton.” Where did her normal voice go, and when did she start speaking in such an earthy tone. Hands clasped ladylike in her front of her, holding onto her pocketbook. Her breath came out in a swoosh when he turned to face her. A burning warmth filled the sexiest eyes, and not just any brown, but the color of milk chocolate, a shade lighter than her skin tone.

“Bekah, we finally meet,” He extended his hand to take hers. She accepted his hand and let out a startled sound of surprise, ill prepared for the jolt of awareness humming from such brief contact.

“Yes, we did…do.” She fell over her tongue, color rising in her cheeks. Boy, did she feel hot. He broke out in the sexiest smile—lordy above, a perfect smile—and her name all but purred from his mouth. He could call her Bekah anytime.

“You okay?”

“Peachy keen.” She licked her lips and studied him from under her lashes.

“Would you like a cocktail?”

“Can we just go straight to shots?”

“Nervous?”

His teasing demeanor made him all the more attractive. His manners pleased her, as well, when he stood, showing her his height, and pulled out her barstool. She sat, and he returned to his position on the stool next to her, his gaze never leaving hers, until she had to break eye contact to gather her thoughts. He inspired instant hot, naked, orgasmic fantasies. A flicker of question crossed his features, pulling her back to the present. Fantasy in check she smiled. “Very.”

“Me too,” Ashton said, motioning for the bartender.

“Really? You have such confidence about you.” She found herself relaxing, and hoped her mic caught all their byplay. When he leaned over to whisper in her ear, her first reaction was to pull back, but his warm hand settled over hers, brushing in gentle sweeps. She gulped in anticipation.

“I half thought you would run the other way when you entered.” The bartender approached and wiped her hands on a towel. “Two shots of coconut rum.” Ashton kept his eyes on Bekah while he ordered, pinning her with his gaze.

“The thought did cross my mind.” She didn’t admit the gravitational pull demanded she park her ass right next to him. “Being paired with you astonished me. I wasn’t expecting the full package, you could say.” Bekah took the shot of rum and raised it to his. “To new people.”

“Cheers.”

They tossed their shots, and Bekah licked a drop that lingered on her lips. Her date’s nostrils flared as he watched. She inhaled in a shallow breath and fought to clear the fog hazing her self-control. Seduction at that moment wasn’t planned. Yet, as his face descended toward hers, she didn’t pull away but leaned forward to meet his lips. Awareness spiked to new levels as he kissed her with masterful control, easing her mouth apart to taste her. Under his spell, she drowned and placed her hands on his shoulders for an anchor. He tasted of whiskey. Just as she got used to his delicious invasion,he broke the kiss with an abrupt halt. Shaken, she witnessed him rein himself in. Had he lost control with just a kiss? Hell, she was stuck for words her damn self. Flushed with arousal, she brought her eyes level with his.

As always, I attempted to spend a good deal of time with my only son, the middle child since he’s a New Year’s Eve baby. However now that he’s 15 all he wanted was cupcakes, money and a trip to the mall to get some new things he wanted. I guess coddle time is over. I’m thankful I still get hugs and kisses from him every-night and when he leaves home. My closest friends don’t get that. Our options were spending 150.00 to 275.00 for a corporate event sponsored by his job AMC. I really balked at spending that much money for a three hour party, including a buffet, and a glass of champagne. I mean party bag full of top notch goodies? No just the normal food and drink, and not even a free bar. So then we decided we were just going to stay home.

Did we do that? Nope. We picked up his pops and headed over to the Brother-In-Laws house. My SIL did a great job cooking finger foods and making mixed drinks. Some close friends came and we played LOGO. A game I bought for the kids on Christmas. Between all the sexual innuendo and stories of the hubs teen through twenty years, we were dying laughing. I’ve heard these stories a million times over the last thirteen years. My favorite one was the way they used to prank each other. Family, and alcohol normally are not a good mix. However with this family man it’s hilarious. So instead of spending an exorbitant amount of money to stand with strangers or associates and pay for drinks, we had a fabulous time again with family, toasted to each other and to a fabulous 2012.

I’m not a big person on goals. I don’t like limits and I feel that they can be limit setting. I cheer for my friends when they make goals and wish them well on following through. I do however make plans

I plan on finishing the four halfway written manuscripts on my desk top within the next few months.

I plan on taking some more courses this year and perhaps a romantic suspense novel.

I plan on going to Romanticon 2012!

I plan on having a great story to write after my Caribbean cruise in October!

I hope to meet new friends and to be inspired daily to be better than I am.

How do you celebrate your New Years.

Please Welcome Anne Holly to my blog! I’m excited to host her and hear about her cowboys!

Cowboy romances. You know the sort, where some single mom finds herself on the run from her ex, hiding out at a ranch with some tall streak of manhood who doesn’t take orders and likes breaking horses and women in his spare time. He tames that filly, and even does it with his hat on. He’s polite to his grandma, but treats his woman like his truck – all his and she better be ready to rev when he is.

Okay, so I admit I do read cowboy romances. In a way, they’re kind of obligatory for romance fans and writers. But, my issue with these stories is that I can’t actually imagine ever living with one of these guys. A few pages of fantasy, fine, but if I were the heroine I’d be clubbing the gorilla with the heel of his own boot two hours after the Epilogue finished.

Now, don’t get me wrong – some writers do well in pairing the Strong Silent Stud with a fiery chick who brings him down a peg or two, and those can be satisfying. But I still don’t always see why she’d bother unless the hero is worth spending time with.

Yes, I know. All that work-hewn body. I guess this is the selling point. It’s just that I can see why the heroine might want to play around with the guy, but marrying him seems to be paying a big price for a good view.

I grew up on a farm, so it isn’t that I lack appreciation for hard work and strong men. Quite the opposite, I think a lot of guys in cushy lines could do with some of that old ethic. It’s just that my attraction to cavemen burned out a long time ago.

I like good looks in my romance heroes, but I also appreciate humour, sensitivity, easy-going natures and, above all, a general positive view of women. I don’t like heroes who think all women are rattle snakes, or need to be dominated, or should be tamed or taught lessons. Far too many romance “heroes” seem to loathe women on general principle, and this upsets me. It certainly doesn’t turn me on, that’s for sure.

This is why I tend to write slightly geeky, funny, cute, creative and/or eccentric men. They suit my style, and that of my heroines. Yet, this past summer, when faced with writing a Thanksgiving themed erotic romance, the only thought that really stuck with me was: Do it a cowboy romance! I fought it. I struggled. I tried other things… But, nothing really suited like a salt-of-the-earth hunk of outdoorsy rancher. So, I bit the bullet and dove on in.

In my Thanksgiving story, Charity, I have an edgy, self-sufficient heroine, Charity Miller, who goes to visit cowboy Joshua, who has contacted her to sell off part of his family’s land to ensure a legacy for his ailing mother’s care. Joshua is a long-legged, rugged, sexy treat, and Charity isn’t made of stone, so you can imagine what ensues. But I wrote it to my tastes – yes, Joshua is rugged, but he’s not hard. He’s tough and strong, but not cruel or cold. He’s decisive, but he’s not filled with arrogance. He’s proud, but willing to work with Charity, rather than just carry her off on his horse. And, yes, he takes what he wants from Charity, but he’s also incredibly giving. Macho is not all there is to masculinity. Sometimes, respect, sweetness and care are also masculine traits, and these are ones I wish we saw more of in mainstream romance. Manners, a lack of pretense, honesty and dedication – these are some of the good qualities to be found in the cowboy hero, ones that are far more appealing than the chauvinism that so many romances focus on.

In a way, Charity redeemed the cowboy subgenre for me. Within it, I pay homage to a few of the sappier or cuter aspects to it, and change around the things I dislike. And I even have a romance fan character who enlightens Charity along the way:

Her assistant, Tara, a devote reader of romance novels, literally squealed at the thought of her determinedly-single boss coming up to spend a few days with some lone cattle rancher.

“Omigosh,” she’d said. “Real cowboys… you’re so lucky. So sexy!”

Charity laughed off the dreamy notion this was anything more than a business trip, which she planned on getting over as efficiently as possible. But now that she was confronted by the real thing, all six-feet of spicy-scented, work-hewn cowboy flesh, she had to hand it to those writers of silly pulp novels – they knew sexy men when they saw them.

Joshua’s economy of motion, his lean slowness and soft, deep voice, along with his responsible family roots and old fashioned manners, made the speedy, pampered men of her acquaintance back in the city suddenly seem hyper, dull and immature.

She darted out a tongue to moisten her lips. She’d already thought him handsome, but now that he’d revealed a glimpse of his attraction to her, it was almost like he’d put out a mating scent. Her eyes strayed to him against her will and she was aware of every move he made. She surreptitiously surveyed his craggy profile and nearly had to tear her eyes away from the pulse in the dip of his neck visible through the gap in his sheep-skin coat. His chest was wide and looked strong, and his hands capable and reliable. The wide spread of his knees as he drove, the loving fit of his faded blue jeans over his narrow hips and between…

Gracious, she thought, what the hell was she doing ogling a client like that, as if he were a slab of prime beef, instead of just a breeder of cattle?

In the end, I’m happy I gave cowboy romance a shot. I think it unlikely this is my calling, but I was pleased to put my experiences as a reader to good use, and I think it might appeal both to those who love cowboy stories and to those who normally shy away from them.

And, of course, it highlights all the love, family loyalty, gratitude and the joy of planting roots that we associate with this time of year.

Happy Thanksgiving, all, and all the best for the holidays!

In BetweenThe Days Blog Hop

What price do we pay for mistakes we make in our lives? Some people say the choices you lead dictate the type of life you live. We have a strong responsibility to cultivate ourselves and to learn from our mistakes, the first time around, a few may say. Well, I personally take a few times. My mama used to say I was like knocking on a concrete wall. Those formidable years when we struggle from awkward adolescence to teens we grow into ourselves and along side our friends. Yet, how do you separate from a destructive friend when you’ve been friends your entire lives?

There is so much to learn. And even then. You have rich stories of triupmph! Let’s measure a person by what we can visually see and accept how they’ve come into their own person, judging not by mistakes but by what’s tangible…the change. The past doesn’t have to define us. As we grow we continually re define who we are.

The Price of Defiance is about many different live changing areas in life. Come along for the Ride

~Excerpt~

“America, where are you?”

“Saint, I’m in big trouble.” Amy gripped the cell tightly to her ear. “I’m at Truman Memorial Hospital, about to be taken to jail.” She started to sob when reality dawned on her.

“Thank God, you’re alive. I’ve been going out of my mind since the link to the wreck was sent to my cell phone. Sit tight. We’ve been fielding police and the media, trying to protect your professional name. Sis, Alejandro demanded to be the one to handle the situation.”

“I’m sorry for scaring you.” Her brother and his team of misfits were all she had while growing up. Being named after their country of conception and proved just how zany her family was. Saint Vincent got his name chopped in half to Saint. “Is this going to hurt your business?”

“No. Alejandro will make sure you have a smooth transaction. I’m forwarding him your info now. Sit still and relax. Can’t have the baby of the family locked up and forgotten.”

She winced at the thought of seeing Alejandro again after so long. Her voice dropped an octave. “Can’t you come? I haven’t seen him since—”

“Miss, we’re ready to transport you to the police department,” Officer Blake interrupted.

“I gotta go.” Amy snapped the phone shut and handed it back to the officer. He was kind enough to leave, allowing her to change into the scrubs they’d sent for. She rapped and opened the door after toeing into the slip-on canvas shoes. “I’m ready.” Head dropped low, she allowed them to escort her to the jailhouse that was a ten-minute ride away.

Being booked took longer than she’d expected, and it mortified her. A nifty machine imprinted her fingerprints electronically after they took her mug shot. The issue with her identification became clear once she had a chance to speak and separate her professional identity from her personal one. When they finished processing her fingerprints and mug shot, she followed them through general population and looked at all the criminals on the way to her holding cell. The door buzzed and opened, and she was ushered in. She cast a glance at the officer, who shook his head, locked the door, and turned his back.

I’m not a criminal.

Author Bio:

Being smart and sassy with a great sense of humor comes easily for Mahalia Levey. An avid reader of books, she found herself enchanted with disappearing completely into the worlds authors created. One day she vowed to herself she’d be one of them. Then family life came, and college right after. Swayed from her childhood course of action, it took many years for her to get back to that place she held dear as a child. Now she is running full steam ahead to keep up with the many ideas flowing freely. She plans on taking her work to higher levels and expanding her genres. Her main focus is giving her readers variety. Her works in progress include paranormal, fantasy and mainstream romance. Taking characters and watching them grow past what she’s imagined is her true passion.

Please welcome Cerise Deland to my blog, she’s here to share a teaser from her new release!

TOYS-4-US series

The set up?

A sex toy party with her six sassy gal pals? Caitlyn Hagerty is IN! Getting that tingly feeling just looking at the goodies, Cait buys four and screws up her courage to commit to one dynamite plan. She’ll show them to the only man in her life she gets all hot and wet for–and who has no idea he’s the one man she’s craved for too damn long. When Delta Force hunk John Ramos flies home on R&R, Cait promises herself to seduce Ram–or cut him from her life forever.

Ram spots the risque items on Cait’s bed and realizes his claim of her voluptuous body has been too long comin’. It’s time to treat her right. Fess up to what he’s wanted all these years. Take Cait into his chaotic life–for one wild night.

And if she wants more?

She has to know that time is not on their side. Right?

A nibble of my newest cherry: (Copyright 2011, Cerise DeLand. All rights reserved.)

Two reasons why you must tempt John Ramos to be your lover? Quick! Remember those? Come on, woman!

Fidgeting, Caitlyn Hagerty spied Ram at the top of the escalator in the arrival terminal at San Antonio Airport and her heart skipped a beat. Two reasons, Cait! You know them. The first is no one else makes your heart melt and…

Ram grinned at her as he drew closer and Cait felt the punch in her gut that she always did when she first saw him on arrival home. Though he never declared it outright she knew he was Army, Delta Force, super-duper secret soldier, here today, gone tomorrow. But no matter what he was in his professional life, he remained her childhood friend and over the past few years, she had fallen crazy in love with him. Who knew when. She knew why though she’d never told him, never tried. Courage fled every time she began.

But not tonight.

She waved at him, eager to get her seduction of him started.

Are you nuts, girl?

No. Absolutely not. Her eyes scanned his massive terminator body and her own flooded with wet desire. He was a sight for her hungry eyes. Big, bold and confidant, Ram was an appropriate nickname for a man who dominated any room and always got what he wanted. Tonight, unlike his last R&R, he looked less like a skinhead gladiator and more like a scrumptious businessman whose hobby was bodybuilding. He had grown his black hair out so that it curled at his nape. He wore civilian clothes, too. Charcoal grey trousers, a crisp white shirt sans tie and a tailored black blazer that fit his broad shoulders like a caress.

And that is why, Cait, you can’t wait any longer to show him how you feel. That’s why you pledged to your gal pals, the Sassy Seven, that the next time Ram came home on leave you would strap on your cojones and tell him you wanted his toned bod in your bed!

“Because I cannot go on like this!” Finding no other man I want more has been a bitch! “And my friends are right. I’ll use the sex toys and seduce the man!”

Next to her, a woman who waited for another traveler raised a brow at her, then quickly stepped away.

Okay. So now I act a little loco.

Cait shoved her hands in her trouser pockets as she forced herself to meet the laughing, onyx gaze of the incredible hunk who rode down the escalator toward her. And lord, she couldn’t help how her blood beat in her veins and how her pussy got all tingly just looking at the man who bounded down the last few steps, hauled her up in his arms and swung her around.

His lips, hot and firm, were on her ear, her cheek and, ever so briefly, on her own. “Caitlyn, you are a sight for sore eyes. How are you, honey?”

“Great. Now that you’re here.” She’d promised herself to be blunt with him this visit. No diplomacy. No hesitancy. No chummy Cait, best friend of his youngest sister. Just crazy-in-love-with-him woman. “And gee, do you look like hell!”

“This leave couldn’t come soon enough for me.” His two big hands pressed her against him so hard, Cait got pictures in her mind of how fierce he’d be in bed. Her channel gushed in hot, juicy need. “I had to see you.”

This is your invitation to play, to experiment, to fulfill your deepest, darkest fantasy or get down and dirty—and then walk away. No regrets, no recriminations, no rules.

We want you to make the rules for your encounter. There are no forms to complete, no wish lists, no compatibility tests. Just jump right in. Part Time Lovers is about hooking up with the right person for right now.

We know your desires change—maybe even from one day to the next—because ours do. We created this Web site to accommodate every single one of your desires.

This week you might want a quick fuck, next week that high school fantasy or the hot vampire you just read about in your favorite book. Part Time Lovers is the place for you to find your dream lover.

So come on in. Someone is waiting for you.

Mercy and Jules

Jules couldn’t believe it.

Shea was supposed to be back at work at Glass City today, so he dropped in on his way to work.

No Shea.

He’d wandered over for an afternoon snack—still no Shea. He stayed late and stopped by at eleven o’clock on his way home. No Shea.

What the hell?

He raced home and checked the airport arrivals on the Web. Any and all flights that might have originated in Australia were on time. Not a single delay. Not a single cancellation. What were the odds of that?

So maybe he’d decided to stay a few days longer. Maybe he’d decided to stay permanently.

Jules picked up the phone. He didn’t care that it was almost three o’clock in the morning. Over the years, he’d called Mercy plenty of times in the middle of the night for a whole lot less than this. This was an emergency.

He didn’t wait for her to growl anything more than, “Hello.”

“I need you to go to Glass City.”

“Huh?”

“First thing in the morning. They open at six. I checked.”

Another Huh? had Jules fuming. “Pay attention, Mercy. I’m desperate. This is important.”

He could picture her as she straightened up, pushed her hair off her face, and rubbed her hands over her cheeks.

“Okay,” she said, her voice solid and clear. “Try that again.”

“I need you to go to Glass City when they open.”

Proving she’d at least been listening, Mercy groaned. “That’s in less than three hours.”

“I know.”

“Okay,” she replied with a sigh. “I’m guessing Shea’s back today?”

“He was supposed to be back yesterday,” Jules whispered. “He wasn’t there.”

“Maybe he just took an extra day or two at home. Maybe his flight was cancelled. Maybe he was too jetlagged to work.”

“Stop,” Jules ordered, knowing Mercy could maybe almost any subject clear to death. “Maybe, maybe, maybe. I need to know, and I can’t ask. I just can’t.”

Mercy groaned. “Goodbye, Jules. If I have to get up in a couple of hours, I need more sleep. I’ll phone you as soon as I know what happened.”

“I’ll be at Part Time Lovers.”

“Fine.”

She hung up without another word. He knew she’d be asleep within minutes of switching her alarm clock from eight to quarter to six.

Jules also knew he wouldn’t be able to sleep; he wasn’t even going to try. Instead, he changed into sweats and a T-shirt and headed to the gym, thanking the owners who kept it open twenty-four hours a day.

He had one hundred and eighty minutes to kill before heading back to Part Time Lovers. He’d spend them with the hardcore gym rats—the only type who showed up at this hour.

He ran full out on the treadmill, lifted weights until his arms trembled with the strain, did squats and push-ups until he was dripping wet, and still Shea’s whereabouts continued to haunt him.

Jules had been counting the days until Shea’s return. Honestly? He’d been counting the hours. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, he’d counted the minutes.

His crush, which had been entertaining, sexy, and full of possibility, had, with the object of it absent, somehow turned into obsession.

It scared the hell out of him.

And there didn’t seem to be anything he could do about it.

Aching in every muscle, Jules walked home in the pre-dawn light and headed straight for the shower. For the first time since Shea left, he didn’t masturbate to one of the Shea-fantasies he’d been enjoying for months, even before Shea had left for Australia.

Tonight, this morning, whatever the hell it was, he was too tired and stressed. Even his usual inexhaustible cock wasn’t interested. Nothing worked, not even when Jules thought about fucking Shea and stroked his cock, not even when he pulled up his favorite part of the Shea-fantasy.

That fantasy was both erotic and romantic, though the repertoire had grown quite aggressively over the months since he’d first seen Shea.

He had fantasies about two tired bodies—strangers—coming together in the sauna, massaging each other from head to toe and everywhere in between. No words, no kissing, no fucking, just the long, slow movement of hands over every inch of a body.

He had voyeuristic fantasies. Jules would somehow be standing invisible in Shea’s apartment on a hot summer day. He’d see him arrive home, ripping off his T-shirt as he closed the door, toeing off his shoes, and padding across the floor to the refrigerator. He’d open the door and stand there, wallowing in the chilled air.

Jules would be close enough to see the goose bumps on his arms and his dark flat nipples pebble in the cold. And then Jules would follow Shea to the very private patio—although Jules had absolutely no idea of where or how Shea lived—and perch on the railing while Shea stripped naked in front of him.

She promises them top jobs and wants to deliver on her word. The man she fantasizes about blocks her path. Being ambitious comes at a price, locked away behind years of study and hard work a sensual woman lurked wanting to break free. With the company Halloween Party coming up, her main competitor is in for the surprise of his life.
Brendon Marshall enjoys his job. Strategy and tactical surveillance keep his mind alert and his skillset one of the best. One woman crawls under his skin and he burns to give it to her good. Setting an easy trap he sits back and waits for his plan to come to fruition.

Excerpt

Militant bastards! Why did Brendon’s team get the good bids and her team the crap ones? The way the cards fall my ass. Jaynie closed her office door and popped her Bluetooth in her ear, contemplating how to tell her team they were stuck babysitting a team of professional hockey players at a Halloween party. Hockey wasn’t even in season. If she went to her boss and screamed sexual discrimination, it’d only put her team deeper in the crapper. Yes, technically they were still the newbies, but how could her team prove competency without being thrust into the chaos of all things fucked?

Uniformity was the key. She looked around her plain office, sucked her teeth and dialed Afrika’s number to break the news. “We didn’t get our bid, again.”

“You’re the only one who expected a complicated assignment. Damn, girl, you should rest easy. I mean what could be worse than babysitting a team of smoking hot hockey players?”

Afrika made sense but still it rankled. “It’s just—”

“Hot bodies, terrible tempers, and we get to calm them down if things turn to shit. What is wrong with your brain? Foreign dignitaries? Politicians? Boring. Going overseas now that would be fun but we just returned from field training. Why would you want to saddle us with that?”

“Status, to prove we can handle real shit. Ya know. To show when it comes down to it we’re just as prepared, just as good as Bren’s team.” She fiddled with her phone.

“But we’re not. Deep down you know we’re not as experienced as his team. They’ve been together for years. You’ve watched them, they don’t anticipate a thing, it’s like they read each other without thinking, just doing. Those jobs you want, we’re not ready for and why should we ask for those bids knowing we’re not on their level—yet? Give us another year together. We’ll get there, let the men be men. Our job isn’t bad. We’re with the number one personal security company worldwide. Others would salivate to be able to work any gig here, so quit pissing and moaning already.”

“I. Grr. Whose team are you on exactly?”

“Remind me you said that when we practice takedowns on the mats. I got your back always chica, and right now you’ve got that tunnel vision that blocks common sense.”

Without knocking, a body moved into her line of vision and sat on the edge of her desk. God, he smelled good. “Afrika, I’ll call you back.” She punched her Bluetooth, disconnecting the call, sucked in a breath and when she looked up, hoped he didn’t notice her noticing him, not on the level she was at least. Dressed in a tight fitting shirt and black slacks he screamed sheer masculinity. While her brain told her to avoid all contact, she couldn’t help the gravitational pull that happened in close proximity. “Do you ever knock?”

“When a door is closed.” Brendon reached over and plucked the device out of her ear, tossing it onto the desk.

“Hey! What was that for?”

“So our little chat doesn’t get interrupted.”

“We’re not having a chat. You can leave just as you entered.”

“No sweets, not ‘til you tell me what your fuckin’ problem with me is.”

“You’re a sneak and an asshole.” Jaynie pushed her chair from her desk, desperate for some distance between them.

“Meaning?”

“You know damn well I wanted the last two jobs your team got.”

“Your team has to go through every step my team had to go through. There are no shortcuts sweets and if you can’t deal you and your team can leave. The boss, for damn sure, isn’t going to jeopardize the lives of his employees or the targets we’re assigned to because an overzealous member feels slighted.”

“Scared of being beat by a girl?”

“Don’t push too hard, sweets, you might not like what you provoke.”

“Scared of a man like you? You may tower over me, and flash those brown eyes at me, but you don’t scare me. “She edged closer, ready to pull the tiger by the tail. “Let’s bet. The Halloween Party that’s here this weekend. Winner of best costume gets the gig.”

“You’re on, sweet cheeks, but when you lose, and you will, don’t bitch over the shit jobs I’ll sling your way.”

“Shit jobs?”

Brendon shoved off the desk and moved into her personal space. He narrowed his eyes and rasped into her ear. “Never put your ambitions over the lives of your team. That’s why you haven’t received what you want. See you at the party.” He turned and strode out of her office.

Today I have author Margie Church visiting me. I had a fantastic time getting to know her better, and in person. She’s here to share her newest release with us and her writing process!

Hales: What do you find the most difficult to write? Dialogue? Back story? Emotion?

Author: Thanks for having me today, Hales. BTW, it was so fun to meet you in Las Vegas! To answer your question, back story is most difficult. It has to be woven into the narrative and dialog so that the reader doesn’t experience a “dump” and get thrown out of the story. I usually find myself writing one of those dumps early on – kind of my brain developing specific details. I end up cutting it out of the manuscript and putting it my character’s outline to sprinkle in as the story develops. And so I don’t forget!

Hales: Have you ever found that you didn’t like your Hero or your Heroine? If so, what did you do to change that?

Author: Funny you should ask that! Just yesterday a reader said they didn’t care for Reagan from WET that much. Truth be told, I don’t either! She’s a fickle bitch who can’t make up her mind and doesn’t seem to trust anyone, including herself. Her love life has become a disaster because of her idiot behavior. BUT, that’s how she is. At the end of the book, she has to make a decision. And in the sequel, Love Revisited: Reagan and Noah, you find out whether she’s grown a spine or lives up to her usual wimpy ways.

Hales: What genres do you write and what led you to write them?

Author: I’ve written contemporary heterosexual, gay, BDSM, paranormal (vamps and ghosts), and suspense so far. I what inspires me. The stories come into my head and I explore them for awhile before deciding whether they have merit. I don’t have a bunch of started and never finished books. My time is limited, so if I like the story, I write it. I will say I never expected to write a gay romance (Hard as Teak) and I wonder where all the kinky ideas came from in The 18th Floor), but apparently my muse was “finding herself.”

Hales: What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

Author: My career as a fiction writer has been quite short – only four years, but my career as a professional writer has been over 25. During all of that time – to this day, I’ve worked in male-dominated industries where women are few and far between. So, the biggest challenge of my writing career has been proving to men, on a regular basis, that I am as smart or smarter than they are and they need to listen to what I have to say. I frequently say that if I peed standing up, my life would have been a lot easier. Sometimes it is a fun challenge to turn around a man’s opinion of my credentials. Other times, it was extremely annoying. It is extremely annoying.

Hales: How have your techniques for character development changed since you’ve been writing? Is it still the same, or has it developed over time, if so how?

Author: With each book, I’ve learned I have a consistent weakness with one character or another. Readers say they really love one of the leads and the other is a bit distant, and usually call me on my bad. So, I’ve taken a few classes on character development, and also refined my process to include greater depth in the emotional triggers. I’m also looking for behaviors that define them more fully, such as an uneven gait, nervous habit, stuttering, and so forth. I’m also referring to those worksheets as I write so I’m able to see whether I’ve done a good job.

Hales: Do you have a book coming out?

Author: I had three books come out this summer so I haven’t got anything pending. I have to make time to finish writing them!

Anyway, Hard as Teak is an erotic gay romance that has played in the top 100 at Amazon for over 90 days. The 18th Floor is an erotic BDSM romance. My newest, Nopeming Shores, is a sensual paranormal romance that includes custom-written, Japanese poetry. As you can see, each of these is quite different so when I said I write what inspires me, I meant it!

Today, I’d like to share an excerpt from The 18th Floor. CONTEST: Share a bit of your favorite or fantasy kink with me and you could win this book.

Blurb: The 18th Floor by Margie Church

Alexa Robbins is so consumed by her career, the only sex she has is listening to her nymphomaniac neighbors go at it. When Sebastian Law discovers her in the eighteenth floor conference room early one morning, the table becomes a pallet for making one of her fantasies come true. Will he enjoy her extensive repertoire?

On the outside, Sebastian appears a buttoned-up, well-dressed, techno geek. Inside, he’s a Dom with a hearty appetite for all types of carnal pleasures. He risks alienating Alexa by revealing his true nature, but he won’t keep the secret for long.

Together, they explore all the things that turn them on. And discover whether they’re a perfect match for life beyond the 18th Floor.

Content advisories: bi-racial m/f, m/m, BDSM, ménage, spanking, flogging, oral sex, anal sex, voyeurism, exhibitionism, sex in public places, phone sex.

The 18th Floor

By Margie Church

Alexa’s high heels clicking against the concrete created a sharp contrast to the muffled thump of Curt’s rubber-soled shoes the next morning. As usual, the security guard escorted her into the building at six-thirty.

Alexa pressed number eighteen on the elevator pad. “See you tomorrow, Curt.”

“Sure. Have a good one.” Grinning, he gave her a two-finger salute.

The door slid shut and began its ascent. She sipped her vanilla latte with its extra shot of espresso, hoping the highly caffeinated brew would kick-start her brain and her ambition. Stepping into the carpeted hallway on the eighteenth floor, Alexa noticed another familiar person. Sebastian Law. She chewed on her lip, thinking about the powerfully built, mocha-skinned man who made her want to do naughty things to him whenever their paths crossed. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem to pay much attention to her.

Starting up an office romance wasn’t on her short list of wise career moves, but she’d spent plenty of time daydreaming about what was under the buttoned up exterior Sebastian cultivated with such care. Sebastian, or Sebi, his close friends called him, favored wearing dress slacks, long sleeved shirts, suspenders, and ties. The description was laughable until she saw how well he filled out his clothes. He walked the halls looking like a living GQ cover model five days a week. Tailored shirts clung to his broad-shouldered torso, and hinted of a well-toned body. And his ass looked so sweet. She was guilty as charged of frequently staring at his gorgeous rear as he walked down the hall. Some days it was all Alexa could do to keep from reaching out and caressing him as they passed in the hall.

Her nipples hardened thinking about the rest of his body. She guessed Sebastian was a few years older. As the company’s lead technology contractor, Sebi’s responsibilities matched his serious expression. But when he smiled . . . watching his lush lips part into a breathtaking grin distracted Alexa more times than she cared to admit. His mouth frequently became the object of her attention instead of the words he spoke. More than once, he’d had to repeat himself because of her lack of concentration.

Oh, I was concentrating all right—on what it would feel like to kiss you until you lost all your buttoned up control and fucked me right on the eighteenth floor conference table.

She reached the conference room at the conclusion of that thought. Her breath hitched in her throat. There won’t be anyone around for another hour. She’d been coming in early long enough to know.

Alexa couldn’t resist walking inside. The room temperature was much cooler than the hallway. She left the lights off and walked to the large oval table. Running her hand ran along the smooth top sent shivers up her spine.

What would mahogany feel like against my naked back?

The window blinds were wide open.

Anyone could watch us.

She closed her eyes and let the fantasy bloom in her sex-starved body until a groan left her lips and her pussy ached for relief.

“Alexa?”

The conference room light came on with an unnerving glare. Sebastian stood with his hand still poised over the switch.

Her face flamed.

“Are you okay? Why are you in here alone?”

She gulped, steadied her voice, and delivered a quick lie. “Good morning, Sebastian. I thought I saw a falling star.” She covered an imaginary yawn with the back of her hand. “I guess I got distracted. The sky is so clear.”

Sebastian turned off the lights and walked to her.

His masculine scent filled her nostrils. Oh shit, I so want to freaking jump him. Even her thoughts sounded like an ache. She trembled inside as he stood next to her observing the pre-dawn sky.

“It’s a shame to miss so many sunrises and sunsets because of your job, isn’t it?”

His mid-southern accent caressed her ear as surely as his tongue could.

Concern drew his eyebrows together. “Are you cold? You shivered.”

One more remark like that and Alexa was convinced she’d be able to crawl under the carpet and disappear. This was the first time they’d ever been alone and she was acting like a lovesick dolt.

She rubbed her arms for effect. “Maybe a little.”

“I don’t think we’ll see any more stars now. The sun has decided to make an appearance.” Sebi faced her. His eyes searched her face.

She focused on his lips. “You’re really handsome.” Did I just blurt that out? Dust particles in space were bigger than her ego at the moment.

He cleared his throat, and raised his expressive eyebrows. “Thanks. Does stargazing always make you so horny?”

“It’s not the stars. It’s you.” She held her breath, waiting for him to laugh or get angry at her bold declaration.

His fingers cupped her chin.

Alexa’s heart hammered in her chest while her libido pleaded for him to kiss her. She held his waist, curling her fingers in the crisp fabric above his belt.

“Did you think I hadn’t noticed how sexy you are?” His voice dripped with charm.

Her mons pressed against his zipper. The thin fabric strained against his swelling cock. The heat between her thighs simmered. She was soaking wet and he hadn’t even touched her yet.

She wrapped her fingers around his tie, drawing those sensual lips to hers.

Sebi kissed her possessively, not wasting precious minutes on teasing foreplay. He flexed his jaw to draw her tongue into his mouth.

Alexa was glad she’d been holding onto his shirt because her knees buckled. A moan formed deep in her throat and escaped. Her fingers dug into his ass cheeks, pressing him firmly against her as she dry fucked him like a wanton hussy.

Sebastian broke from the kiss.

Those hot lips she’d fantasized about worked their way down her neck. While he deftly unbuttoned her blouse, he kissed her nipples through her bra, biting and tugging the sensitive, lace-covered nubs.

Alexa unbuttoned his slacks and shoved them down.

His erection sprang free.

Her pussy responded by adding to the pool of wetness at the apex of her thighs.

They didn’t waste time on words. Other employees would arrive soon. Alexa reached for her purse and found her cache of condoms. While Sebastian slipped one on, Alexa took off her panties and dropped them into her oversized purse.

She caressed his balls. “I’m not wearing those the entire day. Every time you see me, you’ll know my pussy is bare and missing your gorgeous dick.”

A salacious grin covered his lips and rose into his dark eyes. “Don’t be surprised then, if you’re what I’m eating for lunch.”

Hopping onto the conference table, Alexa slid her skirt up around her waist. The chilly surface raised goose bumps on her bare ass. She crooked her finger at Sebi. “I want you right now. Sink your big, black cock into my tight pussy.”

A look of satisfaction came across his face as Sebi reached for her hips and moved Alexa into position. “I hope you can remember to contain your sounds.” He teased her with the head of his cock. “Most women have a difficult time keeping quiet when I’m fucking them. We can’t draw attention.”

The first sensations of penetration released a deep moan in her throat. Her demanding career hadn’t left Alexa much time to date on a regular basis. She had no idea how horny she’d become and how much she needed a good, hard fuck.

Every now and then we are touched by a remarkable story, in turn because of some remarkable person or group of people. When I first heard about Harry and his quest for a cure, I was touched. The young can be so optimistic even in the face of reality and move forward outside of themselves and their issues, to help or a friend. I find it refreshing in the midst of sadness that one young man took on a charity on his own to help others in need who suffer the same disease as he. When Bonnie asked if I’d like to write an essay to go into a group of essay’s, I was…Humbled, honored and grateful to be part of this worthy cause. Authors for Harry is truely a remarkable set of essays done with love for a courageous unforgetable young man.

“Britain’s Kindest Kid”, Harry Moseley, is more than a nice kid with a big heart; he’s a real life hero.

An eleven-year old hero with an inoperable brain tumor who has raised over £500,000.00 for Cancer Research UK.

Joining Harry in his quest for research funds, are an amazing group of 18 romance writers, along with a wonderful cover artist/graphic designer,
who have come together to support Harry, and his charity: Cancer Research UK.

“Author Moments” is a collection of essays written by these talented writers. As a bonus, each author has included an excerpt from one of their current,
or upcoming, releases.

From the New York Times bestselling lists to the writer who is just beginning their quest, you will find this anthology filled with generous writing advice and anecdotes.
It won’t matter where you are on your road to publication or even in your life journey, Author Moments will fill you with love, laughter and a renewed hope that all things
are possible when you care enough to come together and make a difference. Like real life hero, Harry Moseley.

The Authors Helping Harry invite you to pitch in and help Harry find a cure simply by purchasing a copy of this wonderful anthology.

Masturbation

I want no mistake on my take on self-pleasuring or the act of masturbating for sexual release. It’s a healthy way to learn your body and a great way to relieve stress. My sister once asked me what I thought was a normal amount of masturbating in one day. I suggested ten times. However after talking to my dear friend Sascha. He said women can masturbate innumerous times whereas males could only do a small handful of times in one day. i.e. 200 for the females to 20 for the males. I think 200 is a tad bit on the crazy side of self-gratification but hell if you have an itch gotta get it scratched.

Now we’ll get into the quote “Research Area.”

I come from a time back when the Divinyls belted out I Touch Myself!

I’m amazed and intrigued by the creative ways people masturbate. Yes. I searched youtube. Sometimes when you’re writing a story you have to do that. Let me get to the top ten list for both females and Males

Females:

Pillow Humping and or Couch Humping. – Friction feels great but come on who in their right mind wants an Indian rug burn on their clit?

Water Float- Shaped in a dolphin or a lounger.- I fail to get this one.

Balloon Popping- Are you fricking serious? A popped balloon hurts when it pops in your palm right? In no way would I ever rub on a balloon over my hoohaaa and pop it with a pin. Whatever floats their boat.

Bullet’s- I’m all for the mini bullet. You can pop it in your purse, you can even pop it in your glove box. A perfect way to have a quick ‘O’ should the need arise.

Hand action- Takes longer but is more effective for sensatory purposes.

An array of vibrators of all shapes and sizes- Variety is key!

Summer Sausage, Cucumbers and Banana’s- SS is nice and thick. Cucumbers have the feel of the old day dildo’s made of smooth wood and oiled with olive oil. The first sexual lubricant as well as medicinal lubricant. Bananna’s they get mushy.

Beer Bottles and Wine Bottles- I fail to find the need for the glass bottles unless one is trying to stretch for other purposes such as fisting.

Stick Shift – Sexy but not exactly comfortable.

Hood Piercing- Nice way of having continual orgasms while walking but caution. Months later the clit is desensitized and the piercing becomes a pretty ornament to just look at.

Males

Fruit- Hollowed out melon. Messy but interesting to watch.

Hand.

Flesh Light and or pocket pussies, pussy in a can.

Self Cock Sucking- For those contorting males or males with monster cocks.

Poster Tube

PVC Pipe Tube

Pillow Humping or sheet humping- They don’t risk getting Indian rug burns like females.

Water Masturbation

Kitchen Chair and or Holes in the Walls i.e. other types of furniture.

Electro stimulation.

Razor attached to engorged cock by female ponytail bands.

Bullet or Vibrator attached by female ponytail bands.

Home-made vibrator attachments- would make me uneasy

Electric device made for males by use of wires and electrodes and or Electric Spin Tooth Brush and various dental hygiene head attachments- By running the head of TB over the Frenulum in circular motions.

Men and women may have different methods but the end result is the same. I have to give men kudos for being more creative. I had a very interesting time seeing all of these put into action on line. I can’t wait to see what new way may come up!
